Annual EEO Public Report

For the Period June 1, 2009 - May 31, 2010

 

The purpose of this EEO Public File Report is to comply with the FCC's EEO rule.  It is required to be placed in the public inspection files of the station and posted on the website.

 

The information contained in this report covers the time period beginning June 1, 2009 to and including May 31, 2010.

 

The FCC's EEO Rule requires that this Report contain the following information:

 

  1. A list of all full time vacancies filled by the Station during the applicable period.
  2. For each vacancy, the recruitment source(s) utilized to fill the vacancy.
  3. The recruitment source that referred the Hiree for each full time vacancy during the applicable period.
  4. Data reflecting the total number of persons interviewed for full time vacancies during the applicable period and the total number of interviewees referred by each recruitment source utilized in connection with these vacancies.
  5. A list and brief description of the initiatives undertaken pursuant to Section 73.2080 (c) (2) of the FCC Rules.

Outreach Initiatives taken during this period:

  1. Internal Continuing Education:
    1. October 2009, personnel attended Public Media Camp at George Washington University in Washington DC.  Event hosted by NPR and CPB. Topics covered included publishing systems, content, hosting solutions, and effects of Social Media.
    2. March 2010, producers from WYPR's Maryland Morning gave a talk about public radio production to undergraduates at UMBC (University of Maryland-Baltimore County).
    3. April 2010, personnel acted as panelist on a webinar conducted by Public Interactive.  Webinar, Social Media in Public Radio, involved discussion on the impact new media/internet social networking sites have on all aspects of public radio.
    4. May 2010, producers from WYPR's Maryland Morning gave a presentation at the Megapolis audio festival in Baltimore, discussing the use of music to score radio storytelling.
    5. May 2010, WYPR's General Manager spoke to doctors at Bayview Hospital (Johns Hopkins) on the subject of office civility and cooperation among co-workers.  This talk was in response to concerns at Bayview about worker morale

  3. In 2009 WYPR partnered with Cristo Rey Jesuit High School to create an internship program that provided an opportunity for students to acquire broadcasting skills and knowledge.  Students interned in one or more of the following departments: Programming, News, Membership, Maryland Morning, Midday, and the General Manager's Office.  WYPR continued an intern program, open to the public, in which an individual can volunteer over a period of time and acquire broadcasting skills and knowledge.  During the report period, 7 interns have worked with various departments at WYPR.
